Psychology: As the son of a clinical psychologist and the transcriber of his authorized biographer on Hermann Rorschach, I wanted to become one myself. But on my way to becoming a clinical psychologist with my double major in Philosophy and Psychology at Colgate University, I fell in love with advertising’s simple tricks that had the power to change minds.
Advertising: I studied advertising in NYC, Chicago, San Francisco, London, and Amsterdam before returning to New York where I spent 15 years as a copywriter and creative director at over a dozen agencies servicing over 100 clients across all major industries. Strategy, Product and Business Development: While I was still working with agencies, I was asked to be the founding strategist of an eco-denim brand called I’m Not A Virgin. I then co-founded my first startup to keep employees one step ahead of enterprise automation. We called it the blank collar equation and positioned it as an efficiency tool for digital transformation. But it wasn’t until I hosted a breast cancer hackathon with women-in-tech as the driving force that I fully embraced a lean-startup mindset. After that I founded my first agency, Pro4Bono, focused on low cost marketing with high-return joint ventures. Developing products and platforms to compliment messaging and campaigns lead to new partnership opportunities as I served on the marketing advisory board of DoSomething.org from 2016-2019, Corkyy Job Board since 2018, XRSI Advisory Board since 2023, and Wayfinders-on-Hudson Board of Directors since 2023.
Web3: That same breast cancer hackathon lead to a chance meeting with a tech-centric patent agent who saw the same future I did forming. After advising a few blockchain startups I began filing patents in authorized mixed reality in service of an authentic, transparent, and interoperable metaverse.
Mentoring: I began teaching at my advertising alma mater, Miami Ad School, and have continued to mentor through various veterans and DEI programs. I have been an adjunct lecturer at City College NY’s Masters in Branding and Integrated Communications since 2022.
Brand Therapy: After co-founding six successive startups, and logging hundreds of hours of 1 on 1 conversations with company decision makers, I was told my consultations felt like therapy… but therapy for whom? It turned out the brand, and that’s how a new discipline began to develop. By helping clients personify their companies through their brands, I was able to use them as voices for clients and their stakeholders to communicate with.
